Initial situation
In the market town of Wegscheid, in the district of Furthäusl, the old gravel surface has repeatedly presented the municipality with challenges. This is because the dirt road was repeatedly washed out and cracks appeared in the surface, so that the surface was gravelled up every year in order to be able to continue using the road. This also only led to a short-term improvement, which is why Markt Wegscheid decided to build an unsealed road surface. As the path is to be used as a temporary emergency detour for the Furthäusl district in the summer because the sewer system is currently being built there, the CW road surface Traffic was installed on the recommendation of Climateways.

For the new service road, the 3-layer structure from Climateways, consisting of a base course, the dynamic CW Saving layer and the CW Traffic surface course, was implemented. Our Climateways Traffic road surface is known for its high shear strength and its open-pored surface, which minimizes damage caused by heavy traffic and extreme weather conditions. The materials used are purely natural and the road surface remains permanently reversible.
Implementation
For the conversion to a natural road surface, the existing base course was first torn up to a depth of 20 cm, profiled with a side slope of 4 % and then compacted. In addition, the water flow in the ditch was improved. The base course was then watered to ensure optimum bonding with the new layers. To lay the dynamic CW Saving layer, which is responsible for the water management of the road surface, the material was filled into the paver and distributed and profiled over the surface. The dynamic layer could then be statically compacted. It was important to soak the material in the meantime during installation. This prevents segregation of the material and ensures qualified installation. Once the dynamic layer had been compacted, the CW Traffic surface course material was laid on the surface. After 3 wet-dry cycles, the new road surface reaches its final strength.
